Why celebrate World Environment Day?

World Environment Day, celebrated on June 5, is a key date to reflect on the importance of environmental conservation and the urgent need for sustainable actions. This year, the theme proposed by the United Nations (UN) is "Accelerating land restoration, drought resilience, and desertification progress."

The debate highlights the interconnectedness of global environmental challenges and the importance of promoting regenerative practices to ensure a circular and sustainable society for all. Prof. Dr. Edson Grandisoli, ambassador and educational coordinator of the Circular Movement, highlights the importance of generating knowledge around World Environment Day celebrations: “We have to celebrate. Despite the challenges, more and more people are informing themselves and learning about socio-environmental issues. As a result of this increased awareness, actions multiply in different spheres. Changes are slow but must be permanent. It is important not to get discouraged and to maintain coherence between thought and action.”
